Here's a slightly obscure one ("obscure" in the gurdy world, hah)...

Leopold Mozart, Die Bauernhochzeit ("Peasants Wedding"). I've heard the vinyl LP of this by Eduard Melkus which is... interesting. I'm not sure if the hurdy-gurdy was deliberately off-key to fit the rustic style or if the LP or record player was suffering. Worth a listen for the novelty effects though. I have a CD of the Max Engel recording of the same piece coming from Ebay which I'm looking forward to comparing with it.

Any other Baroque/Classical rarities out there?

I have just received my copy of Heretique's CD. Its good to see (hear?) that some of the 'bon homie' (sp?) of the live performance has made it onto the studio album. The very last track cracked me up!

Hurdy-Gurdy is definitely worth listening too - They're a Swedish band and have, by far, the most unique approach to HG music I've ever heard

There's also Andrey Vinogradov - he uses a home-made HG, I believe, which gives his music a very "ancient" sound. So simple, yet so pretty.

And of course, Nigel Eaton, as others have said. That man is quite prolific.

I think Prototyp (that is how they spell it) is the band, Hurdy[quote]-Gurdy being the CD name. At least that's how it comes up in itunes...

OK, here's my two pence worth.

The first I bought in New York at the end of the last century - L'art de la Vielle a Roue - vol.1 with Michele Fromenteau. Don't know if there was ever a vol.2

The second one "Hurdy-Gurdy Music - The Beauty of the Beast" I bought from the man himself - David Bacon. The ship I was on at the time was in dry-dock in Falmouth and I wandered up to the town to do some shopping and heard the unusual sound, to some, but one I recognised as a hurdy gurdy being played. There was David sitting in the glorious sunshine playing the hurdy-gurdy. I stood and listened for quite a time before buying the CD I now have. It wasn't until I got it home and opened that I see he makes them as well
